For several years, I have received annual lists of British band country scores from my buddy Don Field G3XTT. He now runs the DX column in RadCom, the RSGB's magazine. I've always found these lists fascinating. In fact, when I started publishing band country scores for southern Africa in 1995, I decided to adhere to the same format (worked, current countries only) to make our tables directly comparable to theirs. The only exception is the fact that our list also includes 50 MHz, but the scores on that band are low enough to make the effect on totals relatively small.

I've included the Top Six in each table, but the averages are calculated across all stations listed in the original table. There were 29 and 17 stations on the Mixed and CW lists respectively.
There were 334 countries for this survey. You'll notice that several of the top stations on 14 MHz have 333 countries worked. They only need North Korea P5 on that band!
You'll notice that our top station on 30 just barely makes the average score for CW stations in the British table. You'll also notice that, while our high band scores are almost competitive, our low band scores are dismal. The reasons are not hard to understand if you've operated from Europe. Their low band conditions are a lot more tolerable, with very low static levels during the winter. Of course, the Northern winter is when most stations are active, so it makes a huge difference to the enjoyment of LF DXing...
I see one message in these tables: Southern African DXers have a lot of room for improvement!
